3 Days desert tour from Fes to Merzouga Sahara desert

At 8:00 AM, we depart from your accommodation in Fes, heading south towards the Sahara Desert. Our scenic drive takes us through Ifrane, celebrated for its alpine-style chalets and clean mountain air, and into the ancient cedar forests of Azrou where you can see wild Barbary macaques swinging in the branches. We stop in Midelt for lunch before crossing the High Atlas foothills and descending into the spectacular Ziz Valley, with miles of lush palm groves contrasting dramatically against red canyon cliffs. Reaching Erfoud and the gateway of Merzouga, enjoy a welcome glass of Moroccan mint tea and settle into your charming hotel / riad directly facing the breathtaking golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy a delicious dinner and a relaxing first evening at the edge of the desert.

After breakfast, embark on an off-track 4x4 desert excursion around the Erg Chebbi dune perimeter. We visit the village of Khamlia, home to descendants of sub-Saharan Africa, and experience their hypnotic Gnawa spiritual percussion music. We traverse desert tracks to visit nomadic Berber families living in traditional wool tents, gaining intimate insight into their resilient desert life, and savor a freshly baked Berber pizza (Medfouna) for lunch. Return to the riad to relax before meeting your camel caravan in the afternoon. Ride across the undulating sand sea as the sun casts long golden shadows. Arrive at our desert camp nestled between towering dunes, enjoy a warm Berber dinner around a campfire with drum melodies, and sleep in a comfortable nomad tent beneath an extraordinary canopy of desert stars.

Wake up early to climb a nearby dune and witness one of the most stunning sights in Morocco: the Sahara sunrise painting the sands in shifting hues of gold and amber. Ride your camels back to Merzouga for a hearty breakfast and refreshing shower. We then begin our return journey northward, retracing the scenic route through the palm-filled Ziz Gorge and across the Middle Atlas plateaus. After a lunch break in Midelt, we pass once more through the cedar forests and the green hills of Ifrane. Arrive back in the medieval imperial city of Fes in the late afternoon, where your driver drops you off at your hotel or riad, concluding a magical 3-day desert journey.
