Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
Depart from your accommodation in Fes at 8:00 AM heading south towards the Sahara Desert. Cross the Middle Atlas mountain range, pausing in Ifrane, nicknamed the 'Switzerland of Morocco' for its alpine architecture. Stop in the cedar forest of Azrou to observe and feed native Barbary macaques in the wild. Continue through Midelt for lunch, then descend into the dramatic Ziz Valley, where thousands of emerald date palms contrast against crimson canyon cliffs. Continue past Erfoud to reach Merzouga by late afternoon. Settle into your hotel or riad directly facing the foot of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, enjoy a warm welcome tea, dinner, and a restful evening.
